Both will have a big impact on your overall satisfaction of the unit. While newer dishwashers tend to be quieter than older models there are still large disparities in noise from one brand to the next. Also, getting a dishwasher that is energy efficient and uses less water per load will save you a large amount of money over the life of the appliance. Check service records of the brands you like. Most companies offer reliable machines but there are still differences in overall quality and choosing a good brand up front can save you some repair headaches down the road.

Whirlpool DU1100XTPQ This dishwasher does a very good job cleaning dishes but lacks some of the bells and whistles of the Bosch model above. The unit is quiet and reliable even though it lacks some extra cycles. At nearly a third of the cost of the Bosch, this dishwasher appeals to those that want a quality unit at an affordable price.
