Nissan Altima Hybrid 2007 Review

The 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid has hit the road in 8 states which is a bit of a disappointment for those of us in rest of the country but I had a chance to test this car on a recent trip to CA. Here are my impressions of the most fuel efficient Altima ever produced.

Fuel Economy:

Listed fuel economy on this model is 42 miles per gallon in the city and 36 on the highway.  It is the most fuel efficient car in the entire Nissan lineup. Altima Hybrid surpasses Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV) standards, plus meets Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) requirements, including near-zero evaporative emissions.

Ride and Handling:

The car was a bit stiff  which was a reminded me of a performance oriented German sedan. Bumps were a bit too easy to feel for my taste. The car handled well and there was good feel on turns. The car felt light and responsive when hitting the gas.

Specs of Test Car:

BASE PRICE: $24,400.

TYPE: Front-engine, front-wheel drive, five-passenger, mid-size, gasoline-electric hybrid sedan.

ENGINE: 2.5-liter, double overhead cam, inline four cylinder with a 148-kilowatt electric motor.

MILEAGE: 42 mpg (city), 36 mpg (highway).

LENGTH: 189.8 inches.

WHEELBASE: 109.3 inches.

CURB WEIGHT: 3,448 pounds.

Fit and Finish:

The test car was exceptional and the interior was well appointed and was very comfortable. Aestheticallythe Altima is one of the better looking hybrid cars on the market today.

Conclusion:

This is one of the better hybrid offerings currently on the market. It is too bad that the car is only offered in states with more strict emissions regulation. If you are lucky enough to live in one of these states the car is worth considering.
